Irving Middle School
Irving Middle School Principal: Jim Harrell911 N. Grant Avenue Pocatello, Idaho 83204 Phone: (208) 232-3039 Fax: (208) 232-0379 Grades: 7–8 Enrollment: 471 Mascot: "The Bears" Irving Junior High opened in January 1925 as one of Pocatello's first junior high schools along with sister school Franklin Junior High. Irving was built west of the tracks while Franklin was built on the east side. The two schools followed the same one-story floor plan known at the time as "bungalow" schools. On October 8, 1949, Irving was destroyed by fire, sharing the same fate as Pocatello High School, which burned down in 1914 not many blocks from Irving's location in West Pocatello. For the next three semesters, Irving's students were relocated to the basement of the high school until the new building was ready on January 22, 1951. After the completion of Century High School in 1999, 9th graders were moved from the junior highs to the high schools, and Irving was renamed Irving Middle School. MissionExperiencing success every day through rigor, relevancy, and relationships. Whatever it takes!Parents OptionsIrving recognizes the importance of parent involvement at school and with students. Parents are encouraged to participate in Back-to-School Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Orientation night. Along with these opportunities for parents to visit the school, parents are offered the use of the In-Touch program. This Internet-based program allows parents to access their child's progress in each of their classes. The program is an additional way for parents to access information about homework and school activities. This is in addition to the regular progress reports that are sent home. Parent involvement is promoted through the PAC (Parent Advisory Committee). Parents have volunteered to help with fundraisers, student recognition, book fairs, and various community projects. This year Irving will also implement the "Boost" program. This program is designed to help students who are struggling in class work and assignments. Students can be referred to "Boost" when they have missing assignments or when extra help is needed in any subject. Transportation will be provided to specific locations to help parents with students returning home. Parents may volunteer to help in the "Boost" program.2006–2007 Student Body
