Built in 1919, Washington Elementary School is one the district's oldest schools in operation. The handsome building, constructed in the traditional two-story design of the time, stands on the corner of 10th and Lewis, serving students in the University area.

Washington Elementary School is a sister building to the original Jefferson Elementary School. Both were built in 1919 of two-story construction. The old Jefferson building was later retired when a new one-story building was completed in 1982 to takes its place.

Washington Elementary School continues to be a school of choice. All parents are welcome to visit the school, spend time in their child's classroom, and volunteer whenever possible.

2006–2007 Highlights

• Achievement of the IRI state benchmark was made in Kindergarten and Third Grade.
• Washington's staff has worked very hard to develop a comprehensive plan that enables Washington to operate its Title I program in a school-wide model. This means that all students needing extra help can receive services and not just a select few.
