Built in 1919, Washington Elementary School is one the district's oldest schools in operation. The handsome building, constructed in the traditional two-story design of the time, stands on the corner of 10th and Lewis, serving students in the University area.

Washington Elementary School is a sister building to the original Jefferson Elementary School. Both were built in 1919 of two-story construction. The old Jefferson building was later retired when a new one-story building was completed in 1982 to takes its place.
